Chinese excavator operators work overseas how to operate excavators?

As the stock of domestic construction machinery continues to increase, the wages and equipment rental costs for operators are getting lower and lower. Some Chinese excavator drivers have already gone abroad to operate excavators. What is their real situation?

Operating excavators in developed Western countries requires higher qualifications and certifications. More Chinese excavator operators go to places like Africa, Russia, and South America. They go abroad through intermediary companies, live and eat locally, and are separated from their families for several years, aiming to earn money overseas and improve their own lives upon returning.

Africa Section:
Africa is where most Chinese excavator operators go. They operate Chinese brand excavators on construction sites contracted by Chinese companies, developing this fertile land. Wages in Africa are higher than in China, some even double. China is known for its diverse cuisine, while in Africa, the diet mainly consists of onions, potatoes, and seafood only on special occasions. Security and disease outbreaks are significant concerns; occasional robberies and disease outbreaks require drivers’ attention.

Russia Section:
Russia is one of the countries many excavator operators choose to work in due to its proximity to China. Wages in Russia are much higher than in Africa, as it is a European country. The main challenge is the low temperatures; working outdoors in extreme cold conditions can mean spending a night in the wilderness at -40 to -50 degrees Celsius in case of emergencies. Due to Russia’s vast land and sparse population, many operations are conducted in the wilderness with basic accommodation conditions. Compared to the hot climate of Africa, operators in cold Russia must constantly cope with severe cold. The diet mainly consists of canned food, beef, and potatoes.

Pakistan Section:
As China’s international friend, many projects in Pakistan are undertaken by Chinese companies. There are many coal mining projects in Pakistan, mainly involving mine clearance. Wages in Pakistan are slightly lower than in Russia, with workdays lasting 9-10 hours. The living conditions in coal mines are relatively harsh, with temporary site-built board houses and meals prepared by Chinese chefs.

These Chinese operators wouldn’t travel far from home to earn money abroad if it weren’t for a better life. Accommodation and diet conditions are much worse than in China.

As the saying goes, when there is no road, the Chinese always pave the way for themselves with excavators.
